Dana Sherrod, MPH

Director, Birth Equity & Racial Justice Initiatives, Cherished Futures Project Lead

Dana Sherrod is the Director of Birth Equity & Racial Justice Initiatives with the Public Health Alliance of Southern California. At the Alliance, Dana leads a series of racial equity initiatives with governments, hospitals, and health systems. She is the project lead for Cherished Futures for Black Moms & Babies —a multi-sector hospital quality improvement initiative to reduce Black infant and maternal health inequities in Los Angeles County.

In previous roles, Dana spearheaded the launch of a statewide mental health advocacy and prevention program for Black women across California and has championed land-use policies to improve the built environment in Los Angeles neighborhoods of color. As the granddaughter of sharecroppers and civil rights activists, Dana has committed her personal and professional life to the pursuit of health, gender, and racial justice with and for communities of color.

She serves on the Los Angeles County African American Infant and Maternal Mortality Steering Committee and is on the Board of Directors for the Institute for Public Strategies. Dana holds a Master of Public Health from San Jose State University. In her free time, she loves reading, singing, learning new hobbies, and watching movies with her husband and their two young daughters.
